3 Step Custom Rug Guide

STEP ONE: FIND THE BEST SIZE

Use the diagrams to help choose the perfect size.

  • LIVING ROOM The rug should be slightly longer than the sofa.

  • LIVING ROOM If you are pairing the rug with a sectional sofa, the rug should be large enough so that everyone’s feet are on the rug when they are seated.

  • LIVING ROOM Side chairs don’t need to be on the rug.

  • FORMAL LIVING ROOM For more formal interiors choose a size that is large enough to frame the sofa(s) and side chairs.

  • Use blue tape to find the best size.

  • DINING ROOM: A dining room rug should be 4’ longer per dimension so there is 2’ of rug around the table.

  • BEDROOM: We don’t recommend placing an entire bed on a rug. Save yourself the extra maintenance by choosing runners for the sides and smaller rugs at the foot of the bed.

We are so proud to offer Casa Muñiz flat weave rugs, a collaboration with Zapotec weavers of Teotítlan del Valle, Mexico- a small and extraordinary historical weaving village on the outskirts of central Oaxaca. This is a journey into the rich history of Oaxacan rugs and the culture that has sustained this tradition for centuries. Introducing Kush-Up, a collection of hand-knotted and hand-spun rugs made in Nepal with 100% Himalayan wool and silk accents. The first three designs that define the Kush-Up launch began as hand-painted sketches on paper. Silk details rendered in metallic tones like gold and copper add texture and richness to scaled-up geometric patterns. Soft pastel and neutrals are complimented by dark indigo. This program includes the full archive of Melina Finkelstein original art for rug interpretations and inspiration. Kush-Up rugs are made to order and are fully customizable. All sizes are available. STEP 3: CHOOSE COLORS

Peace Industry ® color options

Peace Industry ® wool felt rugs, originally launched in 2002 are distinctive to the Bay Area and represent our unique regional rug culture. This special project is a renewal of Melina’s legacy felt rug collections that began in Iran and is undergoing revitalization with new felt making partners in Nepal. Custom sizes and colors are now available. Our felt artisan partners were trained by Melina Finkelstein during a residency in April 2024 when she taught the women artisans the techniques for making Peace Industry ® felt rugs.
